Also known as Dapeng Zhanchi 大鹏展翅(Great Eagle Spreads Its Wings) 28.1 Lift the Foot and Draw Back the Sword
Turn the torso slightly to the right. Lift the right foot and pull it in to the inside of the left calf. At the same time, turn the right arm out, palm slanted up, and pull it back a little with the left sword-fingers. Look at the sword tip. (Fig. 92)
Important Point
Keep this movement closely connected with the next movement ——withdraw the foot, without pause.
Common Mistake
The foot is lifted too high, forming a one- leg stance.
28.2 Withdraw the Foot and Strike
Withdraw the right foot one full step to the right rear (Northeast), then shift the body center to the right, turn the torso to the right, push the left heel down and outward, and naturally straighten the left leg into a right side-bow stance (hip sideways stance). At the same time, hold the sword in the right hand, strike backhand to the upper right in the rear, with the power in the far end of the sword blade, the sword tip slanted up to head level. Bring the left sword-fingers to the lower left at waist level, with the palm
Important Points
? The direction in which to withdraw the foot and strike is the Northeast. When withdrawing the right foot, land the ball of the right foot first, and while shifting the body center to the right, bend the right leg, then set the right foot firmly, push the left heel down and outward, and straighten the left leg to form a side-bow stance.
? To strike (jT 击)is a quick, light hit with the far end of the sword to the left (or right), with the power sent to the blade tip. To strike to the left is an obverse strike, while to strike to the right is a backhand strike. In the backhand strike, strike to the upper right with the drive of the turning the body to the right, bend the right arm first and then extend it, the power reaching the far end of the sword blade. Move the left sword-fingers to the lower left in symmetry with the sword.
Common Mistakes
? When withdrawing the right foot, the toes are not turned outward, the ball of the foot is landed too heavily; and the shift of the body center to the right is too sudden.
? In the side-bow stance, the toes of both feet are turned out too much, the direction of the right knee in is not the same as the right foot, which leads to a twisting of the hip.
? The power of the strike is not focused on the far end of the blade edge, the strength of the strike is not driven by the turn of the waist, and the right arm, elbow and wrist are not bent first and then extended, so that the strength cannot reach the front part of the sword edge. Striking is done as slicing (xuejian 肖剑).
28. Jlnbu Pfngcl 进步平刺(Step In and Stab with a Flat Sword)
Also known as Hudngfeng Rudong 黄蜂入洞(Yellow Bee Enters the Cave) 29.1 Raise the Foot and Hold the Sword Horizontally
Turn the body first slightly to the left, then to the right. Lift the left foot and pull it to the inside of the right calf. At the same time, holding the sword in the right hand, first swing the sword to the left, then turn the palm and move to the right, and place the sword horizontally in front of the right chest, the sword tip pointing to the left. Circle the left sword-fingers up passing the face and lower them in front of the right shoulder, palm down. Look to the right front. (Fig. 95 front and rear views)
Important Points
? Drive the arm with the waist, move the sword by the arm in horizontal arcs.
? Complete at the same time lifting the foot, placing the sword horizontally and making a circle with the sword-fingers.
Common Mistakes
? The foot is pulled back too high, done as a one-leg stance.
? When swinging the sword to the left, the hand is turned so the sword tucks in.
? The movements of the hand, the sword, the feet and the waist are not coordinated or synchronized.

29.2 Step Forward and Draw Back the Sword
Turn the body to the left. Step with the left foot to the front, the left toes out. At the same time, hold the sword in the right hand, roll and wrap it downward, and then draw it back to the waist Meanwhile, turn the left sword-fingers and lower them in front of the abdomen. Look straight ahead. (Fig. 96)
Important Points
When rolling the sword and lowering it, turn the right arm out, turn the palm up, and point the sword tip directly in front.
Common Mistakes
The foot is landed heavily, and the direction is not correct.
29.3 Bow Stance, Stab with Flat Sword
Step forward with the right foot, and shift the body center forward into a right bow stance. At the same time, holding the sword in the right hand, stab to the front at chest level, palm up. Make a circle with the left sword-fingers to the left and up to the upper side of the head. Look at the sword tip. (Fig. 97)
Important Points
? When moving forward, do not rush the step.
? When stabbing, turn the waist in the same direction as the shoulder, keep the torso upright and the sword and the arm in the same line.
? Coordinate stabbing, bending the leg and the movement of the left sword-fin- gers in a synchronized way.
Common Mistakes
? The stabbing is not done at the same speed as the bow stance, and so the sword and foot do not come into position at the same time.
? The left arm is held up, but not bent into an arc; it is bent too much.
? When turning the body to the side, the hip is twisted and the head is tilted, the posture is not upright.
