16.1 Turn the Body and Circle the Sword
Turn the body to the right. Move the left foot forward, with the left toes pointing out. At the same time, hold the sword in the right hand, draw a circle and wind back, hold the sword straight up and down to the right of the body, the palm out. The left sword-fingers circle with the sword, and pull back in front of the right chest. Look at the sword tip. (Fig. 54)
Important Points
When circling the sword back, turn the body
Fig. 55to the right and look to the northeast, and turn the body fully.
Fig. 55
Common Mistakes
? The swing of the arm and the turn of the body are not full enough, and the sword is too far away from the body.
? The back and the head are bent.
16.2 Bow Stance and Slice Upward to the Right
Turn the body to the left. Move the right foot a step forward, and shift the body center forward, forming a right bow stance. At the same time, holding the sword in the right hand, slice the sword upward backhand in a downward and then forward motion with the edges of the blade vertical, the palm facing out at shoulder height, the sword tip slightly lowered. Circle the left sword-fingers upward until they are above the left side of the head, the palm slanted up. Look straight ahead. (Fig. 55) Important Points
? Hold the sword handle loosely and do not let the sword tip touch the ground.
? The rest is the same as that of Empty Stance and Slice the Sword Upward to the Left in 15.3.
Common Mistakes
? The bow stance and the slicing up of the sword are not completed at the same time. Usually the feet are faster than the sword or the sword is faster than the feet.
? When slicing up the sword, the sword tip is too low, as in blocking (Idnjdn拦剑).

Also known as Sheyan Shi 射雁势 (Shoot at the Wild Goose)
17.1 Turn the Body and Draw the Sword
Turn the body to the left, bend the left leg, and shift the body center onto the left leg, with the right toes slightly in. At the same time, bend the right arm and draw the sword in front of the body at shoulder height, with the sword horizontally straight and the tip pointing to the right. Place the left sword-fingers on the right wrist. Look at the sword tip. (Fig. 56)
Important Points
When drawing the sword, hold the sword mainly with the thumb, index finger and the web between them, the other three fingers loosely holding the sword, so that the sword can be straight horizontal to the ground.
Common Mistakes
The sword tip is raised, and the sword circles to the rear.
17.2 Bow Stance and Chop
Continue to turn the body to the left. With the left toes out, straighten the right leg to form a bow stance. At the same time, hold the sword in the right hand and slice down to the left front. Look at the sword tip. (Fig. 57)
Important Point
The direction of the bow stance and slicing down is at about a 30-degree angle to the right from the central line, that is, toward the Southeast.
Common Mistake
The sword and the right arm are not in a straight line.
17.3 Sit Back and Draw Back the Sword
Shift the body center onto the right leg, and bend the right leg. At the same time, holding the sword in the right hand, draw the sword back beside the right hip, pulling back the left sword-fingers with the right hand. Look to the lower right. (Fig. 58)
Important Point
While pulling back the sword, turn the body to the right.
Common Mistakes
The sword is pulled back in a straight line, and there is a pause at the waist.
17.4 Fig. 59Empty Stance and Point Forward
Fig. 59
Turn the torso a little to the left, and draw the left foot half a step back into a left empty stance. At the same time, draw the right hand back behind the hip, place the sword to the right side of the body, with the sword tip a bit lowered. Point the left swordfingers forward, passing the chin at eye level. Look at the sword-fingers. (Fig. 59)
Important Points
? When pointing forward with the sword-fingers, coordinate the hand movement with the movements of touching the ground with the left foot in an empty stance, and turning the torso to the left.
? The direction of the empty stance and the sword-fingers is about 30 degrees to the right of the front center, that is, toward the Southeast.
? When drawing the sword downward in this movement, draw it downward and back along an arc with the blade edges vertical and with the power in the far end edge of the sword. When fixing the movement, place the sword to the right of the body, draw the handle behind the hip, and bend the right arm slightly.
Common Mistake
The sword handle stops beside the body, not behind the hip.
