1.1.1继承性 Preservation of the tradition
42式太极剑竞赛套路，主要吸收了传统杨式、吴式、 陈式等太极剑的内容，以杨式太极剑的动作为多，整个套 路具有一定的继承性。
The competition routine of 42 style Tai Ji Jian was created based mainly on the traditional Yang style while synthesizing the movements from several other Tai Ji Jian styles such as Chen,Wu and Sun styles.
1.1.2 竞性 Suitability for competition
42式太极剑竞赛套路在继承的基础上，还有所创新， 主要在动作的选取、套路的结构等方面，做了新的调整， 使之成为适应竞赛的规范套踣。特别近些年，在全国的 武术锦标赛上，规定了太极剑的指定动作。
Although the competition routine of 42 style Tai Ji Jian vvas based on the different traditional routines, there are some changes such as the implementation of new movements and a readjustment in the structure of the routine to suit the competition standards. Especially in recent years, the specific movements of this routine have been regulated in the Chinese national Wu Shu competitions.
1.1.3 合理性 Rationality
42式太极剑竞秦套路在动作编排上，注意了动作的 衔接与布局，考虑到动作的难易程度，做了合理的编排， 整个套路分为4段，包括18种剑法、5种步型、3种平衡、3 种腿法和3个发力动作。
The arrangement of 42 style Tai Ji Jian is rational with the well connections between the movements and its sequence in accordance with the degree of difficulty.The whole routine is divided into 4 segments including 18 types of the sword techniques,5 kinds of stances, 3 ways of balance, 3 kinds of leg techniques and 3 different ways of releasing force.
1.2技术风格特点
The Characteristics in the Technique of tbe Routine
42式太极剑的主要技术风格特点为：动作外形剑正势 美，端庄典雅；动作气势气贯剑器，轻灵沉稳；动作衔接自 然连贯，剑势缠绵；动作劲力柔中寓刚，刚发剑响；动作速 度柔和缓慢，柔中有变。在练法上劲透剑器，身剑合一。
The main technical characteristics of 42 style Tai Ji Jian are as the followings：The movements of the sword are bright and beautiful, upright and elegant；the momentum is light and agile,firm and steady with the “Qi” penetrated onto the sword； the connections are smooth and natural ； the force is soft with hardness and the
speed is slow,tender and changeable. When practicing, make the force flow along with the sword to " merge the sword and the body into one".
